HobNobs – Milk Chocolate

HobNobs - Milk Chocolate

HobNobs are a British biscuit from the biscuit company McVitie’s. They are a large, oatey digestive style biscuit with a thick milk chocolate coating on one side. They are rather large and have a distinctive cross-hatch pattern baked into the biscuit. The large amount of oats in the biscuits makes them fairly thick and weighty. This, along with the chocolate covering makes for a fine biscuit.

The biscuits main flavour is of oats. With every bite into the soft chocolate coating the teeth suddenly hit the slightly harder crust of the biscuit the flavours of the chocolate and the oats combine. This flavour is refreshing. Instead of the usual buttery, soft biscuit texture the mouth is instead met with a moist crunchiness.

These biscuits are a change of pace from the usual assortments of shortbread, cookie or double chocolate whatever. They are simple and honest. There are not many of these fibre packed ‘digestives’ on the market that are a treat to eat, but these are really quite good.

The major knock against the HobNobs is the price; as they are imported from Europe someplace (the box appeared to have a Scandinavian language printed onto it) they are quite pricey, coming in at almost $4 a box.
